Together, chol and kodesh provide solid foundations for each and every individual student. The collaborative approach in the sixth form ensures that our students are ready for whatever their futures hold. This can only be possible if everybody works together, cares for each other and looks out for each other and at Hasmonean, teachers and students do exactly that. Our students are treated as individuals and each one of them is provided with the care, guidance and support needed to flourish in the sixth form and to be fully prepared for life after sixth form.

Making the transition from GCSE to sixth form is a difficult one and all students and parents are supported in ensuring the right combination of subjects are selected from the wide variety of A Level and BTEC courses that we offer. In the sixth form, students are taught by teachers who are passionate about their subjects and who teach with enthusiasm and skill, transferring knowledge and expertise to ensure students have a positive experience and are prepared for their exams.

Students are also given opportunities to take leadership positions by applying to be Head Girl Team and to lead societies which cater for both the Sixth form and also provide extra curricular opportunities for the lower school. Students are also provided with information about a range of courses, competitions and supra curricular opportunities outside of school.

YASHAR – building a road to your future

In the sixth form, students are supported in making the best choices for life after Hasmonean as part of what we call the Yashar programme. They are provided with help for Seminary applications, UCAS, Apprenticeships or any other choices they make. Support is also provided for students who choose alternative pathways with the focus always being the best outcome for each student.

At Hasmonean, we pride ourselves on providing students with the support they need to get into university. Almost all of our students go to university and out of them, the vast majority enrol to Russell Group universities. A focus within the Yashar programme is to inform students about the requirements to create a standout application whether they are looking to apply to Oxbridge, medical, BA, BSc or a professional undergraduate. Students are guided through the entire UCAS process, beginning in year 12 and leading up to their submission and more details about dates and events can be found below.

Whilst many apply whilst still in school, there are a number who do not apply until they are in Sem; the support does not end just because a student has left the school. All alumni are provided personal statement and UCAS support and this ranges from meetings and emails to telephone conversations and Zoom calls.

modules and fees and it also provides specific help with Oxford and Cambridge applications. Every student is supported through the process, no matter where and when they wish to apply and individualised support is provided based on the needs of each student.

PSHE

Students are provided with a tailor made RSE and PSHE programme that prepares them for life in Modern Britain.

The Six Plus programme provides a space for students to be informed about a range of relevant information. Sessions range from volunteer opportunities, internet safety to healthy eating. We have worked closely with JWA to create sessions which provide our students with information about healthy relationships and how to look out for themselves and others. This programme is in conjunction with the work of the Midrasha and within the ethos of the school and British Values. As Keshers our students are given introductory safeguarding information to enable students to look out for each other and be confident in reaching out.

Using the online platform Unifrog, students find out more about life beyond school. It includes resources on rights and responsibilities at work, how to write a CV and students are directed toward different tools to develop their understanding. Unifrog also includes university courses and universities across the country. The tool provides an incredible amount of detail about courses, including entry criteria and how to write personal statements. We have partnered with InvestIn to provide students with information about courses, industry experience days and talks which cover such areas as interview skills, networking and employability skills.

JUMP PROGRAMME

Hasmonean is delighted to have links with ORT-JUMP, which matches students in year 12 with professionals in the students chosen field of interest. It is an invaluable mentoring programme which gives students a feel and a greater understanding of what working in industry is really like. They meet with their mentor a number of times throughout the year and follow a set agenda. Students are also required to complete the JUMP folder, where they log details of their meeting and also complete essays about their chosen industry.

In the past, students have been linked in a variety of fields, such as engineering, law and medicine. Where more unique fields are required, ORT-JUMP does its very best to find a suitable mentor. For example, in recent years, students have been linked to event management and to osteopathy, amongst others. Students who take part in the programme often maintain relationships with their mentors long after the programme has ended and they even get offered more formal work experience within their mentors’ field of work.

The programme is an incredibly enriching experience and we have had nothing but positive experiences from both students and mentors. Where, on rare occasions, things don’t work out, the staff at ORT-JUMP are always on hand to ensure things can be remedied and they go the extra mile to ensure our students feel fully supported whilst on the programme.

Not only is the JUMP programme an exciting and informative programme to be on, it also helps start the pathway for our students’ futures.

MIDRASHA

The Midrasha is the Jewish Studies programme that will inspire your daughter in the two critical years ahead as she transitions from school to the rest of her life. We offer a varied programme that has been designed specifically to engage all of our students and enable them to explore their Judaism in a deeper and more meaningful way than ever before.

Inspiration
The Chabura classes are the backbone of the Midrasha. Based on the Chumash and its classic commentaries these classes are taught in smaller groups three times a week, exploring topics that are both timely and relevant to the students. Other lessons for all students are Torah Today (Halacha), Contemporary Torah (Jewish Philosophy) and Hashkafa (Jewish outlook through the prism of the Sedra). Another popular feature of the Midrasha are our choice classes – enabling the girls to choose from a range of topics such as ‘Women in Tanach’ and ‘Middos Workshop’.

Connection
Our teachers are selected from the most talented teachers on both Hasmonean sites and beyond. One of the key aspects of the Midrasha is the connection between teachers and students and providing pastoral care is a priority. We are available to discuss topics with the girls individually and encourage them to ask questions.

Experiences
Becoming a wholesome Jewish woman cannot solely be taught in a classroom but also requires meaningful Jewish experiences. Our Poland Trip is an integral part of the Midrasha experience and we also partner with the HIPE team to offer trips, shabbatonim and activities as an integrated part of our curriculum.
